The first Bunbury Music Festival was held July 10–12, 2009. Planning for the event began in early 2008 by PromoWest Productions,[1] a Columbus, Ohio-based concert promoter. The event was inspired by the 2006 film We Are Marshall, which told the story of how the town of Huntington, West Virginia rallyed together after the 1970 Marshall University football team crash. PromoWest owner/CEO Scott Stienecker was so moved by film that he decided to bring a large-scale music festival to Cincinnati in hopes of having a similar unifying effect on the city.
